Fashion Futures: Design-Led STEM and blended learning for creative innovation
Conventional learning and teaching methods are often based on linear thinking following systematic progression. In contrast, design processes are reflective with considerations from multiple perspectives. Design-led STEM curriculum merges creative practice with technological knowledge to foster adaptive problem-solving skills pertinent to real-world challenges. This presentation explores how blended learning strategies are adopted to deliver D-STEM content to bring together authentic studio practice, digital learning, and cross-sector mentorship. Based on two projects conducted with over a thousand beneficiaries, this keynote presentation will discuss how students of all backgrounds can be empowered by interdisciplinary approaches and knowledge support beyond the confines of the conventional classroom. It will share analysed and serendipitous findings from the three-year pedagogical development journey. To engage participants in active discourse, the presentation will further discuss future opportunities in nurturing innovative design practitioners with learning opportunities that balance digital and practice-based learning.
