DEL is an international conference and webinar series exploring emerging topics in art, design, and higher education and is a place for creative and critical practices. Our programming and archives feature conversations, experimental technologies, and performances alongside academic presentations.
DEL increasingly influences the creative, social, and political aspects of learning and teaching. We are a global community of artists, practitioners, teachers, and students.
What does DEL mean?
Previous iterations of DEL included “Digitally Engaged Learning” and before that “Designs on eLearning.” We now think of “D,” “E,” and “L” as placeholders for broader meaning including design, dream, disrupt, evolve, experience, envision, live, lead, launch, and more.
Starting in 2025, the conference is simply known as the DEL Conference to recognise continuing evolutions of the landscape of higher education, art, and design, and linked to DEL’s mission of expanding our understanding of this landscape.
This change allows the DEL community to discuss a broader range of topical conversations. Higher education implicitly involves digital technology in one way or another, so while DEL will always be online and plugged in, we hope to invite conversations about other emerging topics in art, design, and higher education: community engagement, interdisciplinary teaching, sustainability, inclusive pedagogies, and of course… AI.
